German Sheep

Sheep farming in Germany has changed fundamentally in the past few decades. Meat production has become more important than wool production as market conditions have changed. The production of lamb meat has become the most important production line.

The German Milksheep are the main producers of milk, well-known for their high performance in combination with good health and fertility.

Please note that we can offer most economic if your order fits to full transport capacities, i.e. 250-300 goats or sheep per truck. Reduced amount of animals causes higher transport expenses per head.

German Ostfrisian Milk Sheep

Breed characteristics:

  • well growing and adaptable triple-purpose-breed with sound constitution
  • high fertility
  • twins are common
  • suitable for single keeping or paddocking
  • milkyield over 600 kg by 6 % butterfat and 5 % protein

German Ostfrisian Milk SheepThe milk sheep is a large framed sheep with a slightly arched nose, the head is free of wool and has long to the front tending ears. Well sprung, deep, broad, good developed ribs. The back is long and broad with a slightly hanging crupper. The long thin tail is free of wool.

The high milk yield with good muscularing, the high liveweight gain and very high prolificacy are the characteristics of this breed. The milk sheep is a performance accentuated tripple-purpose-breed (milk-meat-wool) for intensive sites.

The merinoland sheep is a medium till large framed white sheep wit a wedged long head and a typical forelock (Schaupe) and broad, slightly hanging ears. The breast is wide and prominent. The broad back is as long as possible and staight. The ribs are well sprung, with good deep flanks. The hindquaters bear a long wide pelvis, the legs of mutton are full and well let down. Skin foulds are unwanted.

German Suffolk

Breed characteristics:

  • very early maturing lambs with high meat yield
  • mating in the fist year and fast growing
  • suitable for shepherding and paddocking on intensive sites  
  • best results pure bread or as sire for commercial crossing

German SuffolkThe suffolk originates from England, it is a medium till large framed mutton sheep, with a black, free of wool and polled head and black legs. It is an early maturing  well growing sheep with highquality meat and best meat yield. It has a wide, prominent breast, a long broad back, a wide pelvis and the hind legs are well filled down.

German Texel

German TexelA medium to large mutton sheep with white, medium wide, free of wool head and a flat but not too broad forehead. Short, very well muscled neck. The body  has a long broad back, a wide, deep prominent breast, a strong loin and a long broad pelvis. The hind legs are well filled. The joints are well set.

German Black Head MuttonsheepA well growing mutton sheep with well formed meat parts, deep wide prominent breast, deep broad body with a long back who is broad staight and well muscled. The pelvis is broad and long. The hind legs are well filled down with flesh. The head is medium broad, black with little wool. The ears are strong and carried to the side. The legs are black, if possible without wool.

German Mountain SheepThe medium to large sheep has a small, arched, polled head with long, broad hanging ears. It has strong joints with hard claws and also a long sleek wool, that protects it well against cold and rainfall. It is bred in white and brown colour varieties.
